DVD case, repurposed!

I'm so excited about this, I couldn't wait until tomorrow (Tuesday) to post!

I'm sure someone out there has already discovered "this", however, I have not! When I did discover it, it was purely accidental.

That being said...

My family likes 5X7 portraits of my children. I usually struggle with a way of transporting them to MI so they do not get damaged. Of course the photo mailers work just fine (I've not had a complaint yet), but I wanted to spice things up a bit this time. I also wanted a way to transport photos (in my purse) to and from the store so I could have the photo in hand while picking out a frame.

I had a DVD case in my hand and the DVD was MIA, so I tossed my photos in it! They totally fit!! I was amazed!! I showed it off to everyone I spoke to that day. Nobody I had talked to had thought to do something like that, nor had they seen anyone use a DVD case for pictures.

I wanted to make something to replace the original cover that was in it before.

(If you're not sure what I'm talking about, take a DVD that you've purchased from Walmart, Target, etc. Open it up so the front and back touch. Pull out the paper insert. Either recover the paper insert you pull out, or start completely from scratch making a new one.)

I started from scratch. I wanted to make one by hand, but everything I have is dimensional. I didn't want dimensional. Opportunity knocked, so I let it on in! I went through my stash of digital scrapbooking stuff (which I rarely use). I found a few elements from a few different places and threw it all together to make this...

Now, I have a way to transport my photos. I can just throw (literally) them in my purse and go. I couldn't be happier! It's super cute, and makes me smile just looking at it.

I've uploaded a JPEG version of the PDF I made so "you" can use it as well. If you do use it, please give credit where credit is due! I like to take what little credit I can get! Oh, and let me know if you use it, like it, have any questions, problems etc. I'm happy to help where I can.

Now, I've got a sick baby to tend to, and hopefully get some sleep!! Happy Tuesday everyone!

Side note: You can pick up a set of 5 DVD's for $3.50 (depending on the location) at any store that has electronics. (Walmart, Target, Frys, Best Buy, Circuit City etc.) I took the DVD out of the case and just put the photos in. If I wanted to, I could add photos to the DVD and send that along with the photos, however, not everyone in my family is as friendly with their computer as I am with mine. :)

This is great, thank you for sharing! I've never thought of recycling a DVD case this way.

I think this makes a great gift too, esp. for someone one a budget.

This is a GREAT idea!!! If only I had the time and possessed the brain power to come up with something like this... I just wanted to say HI and see how you and the family were - haven't heard from ya in a while but you look like you definitely have your hands full lol...
